  • Carmen was very welcoming upon my arrival. While my Spanish is mediocre at best, we were able to communicate basic information. Carmen is a very sweet lady and makes you feel like she's your abuela. Her place was easy to find and get into. And it's just a few blocks away from the busy part of Alajuela, so it's very peaceful. While my stay was short, it was a great place to stay before catching an early flight out of San Jose. And only a 30 minute walk to the airport so I didn't have to worry about catching an Uber or taxi at 4am. This would be my go-to place again if I ever needed a place to stay when flying in or out of San Jose.

  • Not only was this the perfect spot to unwind while in alajuela, but Carmen and her daughter made me feel right at home. Their hospitality went above and beyond, and their garden at casa oasis was medicine for the soul :)

  • I liked it very much, the hostess was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, we could mainly only communicate with a translator but that worked well and she helped me find ATMs, SIM card, best shopping, Uber and bus. On departure, she accompanied me to the bus and communicated with the Uber driver on arrival, as I had problems. She also offered me tea and coffee. I enjoyed the garden and terrace very much, the neighborhood is easy to explore on foot, the room was nice and perfect for the short stay. Thanks for everything!

  • All of the great things you read about staying with Carmen, believe it! That was our first experience staying in someone's room at their house, and we didn't know what to expect. She and her home are so warm and inviting. She's a servant at heart and we felt at home. Her garden patio is greatness and so peaceful! Her daughter was there and was a great hostess as well. There are many restaurants in walking distance about 7-10 minutes away and even one on the corner. There were big city parks and shopping stores close by, too. Carmen knows that we claim her home as our stopping place even if we have to sleep on the patio! She will always be our priority choice when coming to Costa Rica! Carmen, her family, and home are truly a blessing.

  • The stay at Carmen Maria's was the absolute highlight of our Costa Rica trip. She is a fantastic host and helped us incredibly – we felt immediately welcome. The house is beautiful and designed with a lot of love. Especially the small garden with the porch is simply "superior" – a perfect place to relax. Since the accommodation is a bit off the center, it is totally quiet, so you can really switch off. Despite the quiet location, you are in the middle of the center in just about 5 minutes on foot, where there is everything you need. A small tip: In one of the nearby parks you can watch many parrots! There are great sodas nearby. Especially the soda, which is closest to the accommodation, was excellent – it tasted very good there. If you are looking for a warm, quiet and central place to stay in Alajuela, Carmen Maria is the place to be. We highly recommend this place!

  • To be honest, I wasn't looking for a room in a private house. I was looking for an apartment, but when I arrived at the house, Doña Carmen was very nice. I felt bad because I woke her up, since I arrived at midnight, but she was very empathetic. At check-out time, she was super nice. Honestly, it wasn't what I expected, and yet I felt much better than in many apartments where I've been. It's totally worth it. The house is centrally located. A 100/10. Believe me, you won't regret it.

  • what an amazing, cozy place. Dona Carmen definitely makes you feel at home. Backyard garden is such a tranquil, relaxing place. Very walkable location, next to parks, restaurants, stores, etc. The cherry on top was her dog Marley, so friendly and likes to hang out. Highly Recommend

  • Doña Carmen is a lovely host, kind and caring. The room and bathroom were spotless. She kindly let my cat Felix stay since early morning as I came to work at an event 10 min away. Am deeply grateful for this as he was able to have space to move around and not be tied up at the event I would have taken him to. I came back late evening and slept like a baby. Very quiet place. Left my car on the street and it was perfectly safe.

  • I was very well looked after at this Airbnb. The lovely host always responded very quickly to my questions. Everything was very clear. I arrived late at night, and it wasn't a problem. The small lights were on, which was really lovely. Thank you so much! 🥰

  • I loved this place and felt right at home from the moment I arrived. It's nice, very tidy, easy to find, and located in a quiet area, as well as being close to the airport. The host was very friendly, attentive and helpful at all times. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and pleasant place to stay.

  • I highly recommend this Airbnb. Location near airport. Hot large clean shower. Private bathroom. Beautiful house secluded from much traffic noise with a back patio full of green plants and flowers, pleasant breeze. A substantial floor fan inside the room. Large soft bed and clean sheets, good internet. The hostess Carmen María very kind and welcoming even when I arrived early. She made an authentic excellent coffee for me. Only minor drawback was some barking neighborhood dogs but that is typical of Costa Rica everywhere, one just learns to ignore it. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Frequently asked questions

Is Casa Oasis a hotel?

No. It's my home: private rooms with their own bathroom inside the house where I live. If you're looking for a hotel near the airport but would rather have somewhere quieter and more personal, you'll feel right at home here.

How do I book?

Bookings are made on Airbnb. Choose your dates and the link takes you straight to the room.

How far is it from the airport?

About a 10-minute drive from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). Many guests stay here before an early flight.

Can you pick me up at the airport?

Yes. We have a shuttle service to and from the airport for $20 each way. Just message me in advance so I can arrange it.

How does arrival work?

Check-in is from 2:00 p.m. and check-out is by 12:00 noon. The house has self check-in with a code, so you can arrive whenever you need to. If you get here before 6:00 p.m., I'd love to welcome you in person. After that I'm resting, but I always keep an eye out to make sure you've arrived safely.

Is there parking?

My house doesn't have its own parking, but I work hand in hand with Parqueo Meymar, just 300 meters away (a 4-minute walk). It's ₡6,000 (approx. $13) a night, your car stays safe, and they open and close around whatever time you arrive or leave. Just let me know before you arrive that you'll need it, and I'll arrange everything. I truly recommend it: some guests have left their car on the street without any trouble, but if you do, it's at your own risk and we can't be responsible for it.

Is it the whole house?

No. It's a private room with its own bathroom inside my home, where I live. We share the living room, the kitchen and the terrace.

What language does Carmen speak?

I speak Spanish, but I use a translator and we always understand each other. Write to me in whatever language you like.

Can I bring my pet?

Of course — any size, and at no extra cost! I only ask that they get along with Marley, the little dog of the house. He's very sweet and gets along with everyone.

Are there animals in the house?

Yes, Marley lives here with us. If you're allergic to dogs, please keep that in mind.
